Apple TV a Winner
Is anyone suprised that Apple has once again come up with a great product that is a raving success?
Other manufacturers have tried for years to come up with a “set-top-box” that integrates the television and computer. Of course the mistake was that until now the devices were either entire computers or some attempt to put an internet browser on a TV screen.
You’ll notice that neither approach has resulted in a winning product. Computers suck as TVs - who wants to sit alone in the basement watching Sex and the City on a 20 inch screen?
Televisions are meant for group viewing. Trying to browse a website from across the room while you wife hits you with a pillow and your kids scream is not a popular feature.
What Apple did was make content that’s suitable for large-screen sharing, but stored on your computer available to your big screen without putting another computer in the living room. And it seems to be working.

Specifically, orders have already exceeded the original 100,000 order that Apple had placed with Inventec, and Apple is preparing to place a second order for twice that number. Apple is now planning to sell over a million Apple TV devices leading up to the 2007 holiday season, and at least that many again during the Thanksgiving - Christmas period this year…
