The RIAA wants it ALL!
Digg alerted me to this insane article from Radioandrecords.comwhich is apparently a trade rag for the greed and arrogance industry.
I’ll let you click on the link and read the entire thing, but this last
paragraph says it all.
“Mechanical royalties currently
are out of whack with historical and international rates,” RIAA
executive vp and general counsel Steven Marks said. “We hope the judges
will restore the proper balance by reducing the rate and moving to a
more flexible percentage rate structure so that record companies can
continue to create the sound recordings that drive revenues for music
publishers.”
They seem to think that recordings don’t drive revenue for artist or composers, just the amoral vampires who keep all the money.
Hasn’t anyone
in that industry noticed how they have drifted way off the edge of
rationality here? While quoting huge imaginary losses they throw
millions at attorneys and accountants who scrape the last cents out of
their former customers and clients. How long before this entire artiface collapses form it’s own corruption.
The mere fact that
they still call it the “Record” industry indicates how irrelevant these
borgs have become. Combining that with radio is just begging for a quick death.
Perhaps we should download all of our music, then send money directly to the artists. Turn off your radio, go see a band!
