Apple’s First Web Site 1998
Apple.com is one of the oldest URLs on the web, their first website appearing in 1996.
Through the magic of the web.archive time machine, here is that first website in all it’s glory. As you could expect there are a few broken links, but it’s still fun to wander down memory lane and see what Steve had to deal with on his resurrection. There were too many products, no consistancy in the product design and wildly divergent components. You couldn’t even swap parts between some versions of the same model. This was a very difficult time.
The good news was that the iMac had been announced, which at last gave them a chance to more than regain their former glory. Eight years later, Apple has become a powerhouse in the industry, the product line is clear simple and selling like hotcakes. And best of all their webs site doesn’t look so dorky.
